We
had five players travel to Worthing for the Sussex Open - Robert Parker, Jos
Goddard, Alex Jackson, Connor Barnard & Jason Bull.
Robert
0
Wins 2 Losses
Robert
started both his contests in fine style, taking the early lead, but didn't
maintain a strong enough defence once he had the lead. Some valuable
lessons learned and a good place to build from.
Jos
1
Win 2 Losses
Jos
seemed to have his old 'mat pressence' back and looked very confident out in
the contest area, but sadly his judo didn't really follow. One or two moments of
real skill were overshadowed by an otherwise below par performance.
Alex
1
Win 2 Losses
First
time for Alex in a higher weight group, but fared pretty well. It will take a
little time for Alex to get used to fighting much stronger opponents, but an
encouraging day nonetheless.
Connor
3
Wins 1 Loss - Silver
Connor
was on fine form, showing just how much his increased training has paid
off. The other lads could learn a lot from Connor on how to dominate a fight
with strong grips and putting your opponent under pressure!! A very pleasing
Silver medal indeed.
Jason
0
Win 4 Losses
Jason
was always going to find this a tough competition, in the older age group,
as he came up against some very experienced players. Experience is everything
at this level and so Jason will have learned a lot from the day.
Not
our finest ever set of reslts I have to admit. The opposition was particulalrly
strong which is exactly what these players need if they are to progess to
National Championship level. A very early start was also a challenge for some,
but these are all valuable lessons/experiences which need to be overcome.
