We had nine players make the trip
over to Holland this year - Luke Maskell, Tommy Tancock, Megan Maskell, Jason
Bull, Zoe Camp, Rachael Daniels, Sophie Daniels, Richard Frost & Tim
Frost. Sadly Jos Goddard was ill the night before and could not make
the trip.
Luke: 1 Win 2 Losses
Luke did well to pick up a win and
should really have had a second win but slipped up from a little lack of
concentration.
Tommy: 1 Win 1 Loss - Silver
Sadly for Tommy there were only 3 in
his group, but showed some top quality judo to take an impressive win and a
Silver Medal. I have no doubt Tommy would have medalled even if there had
been more players in his group.
Megan: 2 Wins 2 Losses
Two very good wins from Megan and
with a little more control probably could have made it through to the medals.
Jason: 0 Wins 2 Losses
This was Jason's first trip abroad
and competition of this calibre. After an understandably nervy start, he fought
much better in his second contest taking his opponent to time.
Zoe: 2 Wins 2 Losses
A big improvement on last year for
Zoe to gain 2 wins in a strong group of girls. With increased hard work in
training, a medal position may well be possible next year.
Rachael: 1 Win 2 Losses
A particularly impressive win for
Rachael - on her 16th Birthday!!! Sadly she couldn't carry forward the momentum
as decisions really didn't go her way. A strong performance though.
Sophie: 4 Wins 1 Loss - Bronze
Some superb judo from Sophie to
notch up 4 wins. The only loss was against the eventual Gold Medallist who in
all honesty she should/could have beaten. I think Sophie's incredible win in
her third contest will stick in our memories for a long time - she was
loosing with just 3 seconds remaining when she picked up her opponent and threw
her for ippon to take the victory!!
Richard: 2 Wins 2 Losses
A fine international debut for
Richard who fought really well to pick up 2 wins against top flight opposition.
I would expect to see Richard pushing for medals next year.
Tim: 1 Win 2 Losses
Not only was this Tims first
competition abroad, it was also his first in a new weight group. His win was
very impressive and the losses were only by small scores. Will do very well
next year.
Another great trip abroad for our
players who will only benefit from experiences like these. I have set
myself a goal of 5 medals for next year which I believe is quite achievable if
our players continue to put in the hard work and can keep away from sick bugs
the night before we travel.!!!
I'm sure all those that
travelled would love to fill you in on all the gossip - some topics of
conversation they might like to discuss are:
- Very
very friendly hotel manager!!
- Cambridge
United Supporters abroad!!
- Changing
room etiquette!!
- How
to order rice in Holland!!
- Coffee
shops!!
Great memories guys, thanks for a fun trip!!
Allen.
